Ed White, CPS, Administrative Specialist

Ed White started work with the center in the Fall of 2002, but has worked in the same suite at UT since 1995, and has known many of the CLS staff over those years.  Formerly the Principal Secretary for the LRE for LIFE Project, a technical assistance project focusing on Special Education and Inclusion, he is glad to be still providing support for educators in Tennessee.

Ed has many outside interests that keep him (hyper-)active in his local community.  He was worked with the Hope Center since 1996 as a volunteer care-giver for PWA’s (People With AIDS), and served as the Co-Chair of the Panel-Making Committee for the local AIDS Memorial Quilt Chapter.  He is also a Master Gardener for the Knox County Agricultural Extension Office, volunteering time and plants to create and maintain gardens for various non-profit entities and individuals, and propagating plants for charity plant sales.

Meanwhile, Ed has become a familiar face as an actor locally, performing in dozens of comedies at Theatre Central since 1990, as well as in local commercials and various film projects.  Twice nominated Best Actor in the Knoxville Area Theatre Coalition, he has acted at Theatre Memphis, West Memphis Little Theatre, Knoxville’s Bijou Theatre, Theatre Knoxville Downtown, and in productions by the Actor’s Coop and the Genius Waitress Society.  Twice a year he also performs a dramatic monologue called “The Caregiver” for local AIDS caregiving workshops and programs.

In January 2007, Ed became a charter member of the University of TN Chancellor’s Commission on LGBT People, and is very excited about the prospects for advancing tolerance and respect for all people within UT and its community.

Ed is also a sometimes-freelance writer and photographer, and enjoys hiking, fossil hunting, and other outdoor activities.
