Sandra Fugate, Coordinator II
ESOL Coordinator

Sandra joined the staff at the UT Center for Literacy Studies (the Center) in 2000 as ABE/GED and Professional Development Framework and Tracking System Coordinator at the Center.  She assumed the position of English for Students of Other Languages (ESOL) Program Coordinator for the Center in February 2005. 

Sandra’s undergraduate degree is in Social Welfare and she holds a Masters in Educational Counseling, a teaching license in Latin, and graduate studies in English as a Second Language.  Sandra’s introduction into the field of adult education began when she taught ESOL prior to coming to the Center.  During that time, she collaborated with the Center to organize two international conferences between Tennessee ESOL instructors and the faculty of Universidad Autonoma de Nayarit in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. 

Sandra works collaboratively with the Tennessee Division of Adult Education to plan and implement professional development services for ESOL programs across the state.  Her duties include:  assessment training, development and implementation of teacher training workshops and online courses, curriculum development and revision, technical support, and moderation of discussion list.  She interacts with the local community, state and national organizations for the exchange of information and to establish relationships regarding adult ESOL services. 
In her leisure time, she enjoys reading, cooking, dancing, singing, and horseback riding.
